Reflection on 2nd Junior Conference

Image
Hello Everyone ! Different from previous reflections , this one is somehow different , more personal and maybe the only one I am pleasantly writing about. Why so ? Hmm, because last Friday was the 2nd Junior Conference , the Event of the week . When this idea was firstly presented to us , I have to be honest and to say that I was above the stars and I didn't even know what was it about , when was it and things like that. I wasn't even interesting in it until the day we had to make a presentation on Interactive Power Point and on that day , our professor told us that we were going to present our work on this Conference. We were like " Whaaaat " ? With the passing of days , everything became so real , we got so close to the final product and the Conference was on its way...Well it came , our big day, emotions all the way up and so scared whether the professors would appreciate the work that we had done .. And it happened that our work was the first on line. ...

Prezi - From a "Mold Breaker" to a "Motion Sickness"

The semester is coming to an end , and so does this subject. When it first started , I thought that it would be a nonsense subject , something related with technology but I never expected it to be so applicable in my future days as a teacher. We have done so many presentations until now during classes and what I noticed was that all the presentations were delivered through PowerPoint. Common nowadays , right ? But why are we only using PowerPoint as the primary media in our presentations and not for example , Prezi. So , my reflection today is about Prezi . Why about Prezi ? Because I think that Prezi is definitely another stage when it comes to presentations. Of course , as after laughs tears always follow, so does advantages and disadvantages accompany Prezi too. Firstly, using Prezi you definitely manage to break the mold. You are no longer using linear slides , but instead , you begin with blank canvas and can add and manipulate content anywhere on the page. Compared  t...

Technology and its influence of teacher's role .

Since the beginning of this semester , we have dealt with lots of topics , all coming in terms with a common term 'technology'. Apart from technology , we have also been discussing about the role of the teacher, how this role has changed with regard to the latest innovations in education and in technology. We have been accustomed with this teacher, the traditional one , with a chalk on her/his hands and always pointing at the blackboard or just sitting down on her desk and explaining the lesson. Past is past and nowadays, teacher's role has changed so much , though we still may have these experienced teachers who refuse to turn pages, but our main concern is on those who have turned pages. But how has exactly technology influenced teacher's role ? Well firstly, the role of a teacher has changed to that of a facilitator, providing students with more liberty in the classroom , and bringing this positive mode through the class and all that thanks to the usage of tec...

PowerPoint - Pros and Cons

Using PowerPoint today in classes has become so usual that we question ourselves : When did we become so accostumed to it ? How is that we adapted to it so fast and made it part of our daily lectures at school ? I guess the answer is simple , we just needed it , we just needed help in changing teaching method , in embracing a different method from the traditional one and of course that PowerPoint is to be thanks about this. As any other subject , object, thing , person , even using PowerPoint as part of our learning has its advntages and disadvantages and above I am going to provide you with some pros and cons about PowerPoint. Firstly , PowerPoint is an application program of presentation found in Microsoft Office and we don’t need to buy any new software . The icons used are very simple because we find a lot of similarites with those in Microsoft and in this way we as users can use it without studying the program previously. Secondly , PowerPoint is fun to watch and fun...

Reflection on Webinars

From day to day this subject is becoming more and more demanding and this week’s task was about Webinars. We were presented with two webinars on our blog , one about ‘ Discovering Grammar with Consciousness-raising Tasks’ and the other one related to ‘ Proverbs and Quotables’. So far , all the lectures have had one thing in common , the massive usage of Technology, and with no exception, Webinar deals a lot with technology. I have to admit that using the latter in a classroom may be a little bit challenging, mostly here in Albania I think, because I guess that also for us as students was somehow new and it’s not so common to be seen in practice   around here. To begin with , I would say that this new form of presenting information to students would be embraced by them, taking into consideration that this is the era they live in, so why not to deal with something of their level ?   So , next I am going to present some opinions on why and how to use this in a classroom. ...

A Project-Based Learning Classroom

Until now I have learnt so many things that I honestly didn’t know at all , all these new methods to incorporate in my future classrooms and the best part of this is that they are so entertaining and I am sure that my students will love them. We have always had this idea of these traditional projects   and Project-Based Learning is like an innovation for the teachers of the 21 th century, and so it was for me too. What I firstly found difficult about this project was understanding that this method was not about teaching students another way how to present and construct a project but mostly teaching something through the material provided with Project-Based Learning. This seems so complicated at once but it can be explained as such , a backward situation : before you prepare lesson plans, you prepare the final exams and at the same time you think about the material you will give to your students. These materials become the center of your classrooms, with which you develop pro...
