A Project-Based Learning Classroom
Until now I have learnt so many things that I honestly didn’t
know at all , all these new methods to incorporate in my future classrooms and
the best part of this is that they are so entertaining and I am sure that my students
will love them. We have always had this idea of these traditional projects and Project-Based Learning is like an innovation
for the teachers of the 21th century, and so it was for me too.
What I firstly found difficult about this project was
understanding that this method was not about teaching students another way how
to present and construct a project but mostly teaching something through the
material provided with Project-Based Learning. This seems so complicated at
once but it can be explained as such , a backward situation : before you prepare
lesson plans, you prepare the final exams and at the same time you think about
the material you will give to your students. These materials become the center of
your classrooms, with which you develop projects that will help students teach
those materials but at the same time , they will also learn how to apply that
in real life situations.
As a teacher , I
would play the role of a facilitator , guiding them through difficulties they
might find whilst learning and students are, if I can call them like this , the
driving force behind all this. They will have to be responsible about finding
solutions and ultimately presenting them to the class. One of the things that
is basic to this method is Real world Connection , and as a teacher I intend to
make this method as natural as possible.
I will try to introduce my students to a real world problem that would apply
in their everyday life . For example , I will develop a project on English
common mistakes by asking students that why is that students make mistakes in
grammar and then they would provide me with some answers. Are exactly these
questions that become the basis of this kind of project and that intends on
further teaching students.
Then , based on the answers and theories suggested by the
students about why are these mistakes performed, I would ask now the students
to find ways to prevent this phenomenon from happening. They would began
researching and most of all, I intend on making them collaborate with each
other, divided on groups so that they can develop the best solutions to the
problems.
Yet , though my role here is that of a facilitator, that doesn’t
mean that assessment if left behind. My duty also relies on the fact that I
have to remain involved with students and to see how they are going along with
their projects. Spending time with groups of students, asking questions to
ensure their full understanding of what they are doing, will be some of my ways
of assessing them , to ensure that they are on task and keeping up with the
materials for the project.
“Project-Based Learning is great, but it is too hard for
teachers to do well “.
I like it that your whole post seems to come around practicality. Also I would like you to elaborate a little further with the last sentence.
ReplyDeleteYou have covered everything in this post, including here the difficulties that you personally find applying this techniques, as well as the benefits that it has at both students and teachers. The role that you think you will take while applying PBL was very well explained and I could understand through your sentences that you have really done a research work.I Do agree with the quote you have included in the end, because if you really need to work hard if you want to apply this technique in your classes. despite the fact that it might seem quite easy when you read it, I can go back at the same reasons that you provided on the difficulties that this approach has in real life.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post.I agree with your last sentence because often teachers don't do well their role and this is a harm to students.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to stop in your last sentence because I think the same as it takes too much time and effort but I also think that it worths it for the students and for the teachers as well. It's good that u predict to promote teamwork and u seem very careful with all of details .
ReplyDeleteYour posts represents not only the great advantages that this approach has,but also the drawbacks of PBL that we should consider when we tend to make use of it in our future. You seem to be eager to apply this method in your classes. However, you have not forgotten to mention the problems, for which we should find a solution in order to avoid a bad utilization of PBL.I like the fact that you have mentioned some practical ways of applying this approach,as well as your role as a future teacher when using this approach.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your post, I don't find it necessary to search for it anymore because you have included everthing here and explained them very well. Sad to say but the last sentence is true, being a teacher is not easy.
ReplyDeleteI really like the post Eva.
ReplyDeleteActually just like you we all shou be aware that PBL is not as easy as it seems but needs a lot of hard work.
Your last sentence explains it all :'D and it goes in the same proportion, the more fruitful the class, the harder the teacher's work! thanks for pointing it out
ReplyDeleteyou explained everything in this post.i want to thank you for providing examples of how we can apply this new approach. This is very useful for everyone.thank you
ReplyDeletePBL may create some confusion till students get the right path,I see you don't want them to waste time on that,as you carefully would give them the right direction.
ReplyDeleteIf conditions permits, I would recommend let students choose paths on their own .A little more trust on them, probably they'll suprise you😉
