PowerPoint - Pros and Cons
Using PowerPoint today in classes has become so usual that
we question ourselves : When did we become so accostumed to it ? How is that we
adapted to it so fast and made it part of our daily lectures at school ?
I guess the answer is simple , we just needed it , we just
needed help in changing teaching method , in embracing a different method from
the traditional one and of course that PowerPoint is to be thanks about this.
As any other subject , object, thing , person , even using
PowerPoint as part of our learning has its advntages and disadvantages and
above I am going to provide you with some pros and cons about PowerPoint.
Firstly , PowerPoint is an application program of
presentation found in Microsoft Office and we don’t need to buy any new
software . The icons used are very simple because we find a lot of similarites
with those in Microsoft and in this way we as users can use it without studying
the program previously.
Secondly , PowerPoint is fun to watch and fun to be applied
in a usual class or any kind of presentation and it provides a teacher to
create the perfect lesson, students to reflect on a lesson and they are also
albe to print them out. Furthermore , using PowerPoint improves the students’
learning motivation , increases authentic materials for study and at last it
encourages interaction between the teacher and the students.
Thirdly, some of the negative sides of using a PowerPoint
are that the component system sometimes does not work as expected. The main
failure in projector is rare but possible and a solution to this case is to
have a Plan B , alternative activities, such as good preparation.
Moreover , the most common abuses in PowerPoint use for
teaching and learning include visually poor or boring slides. People tend to
include too many texts on the slide and this does not guarantee for total
attention of the listener and makes the presentation boring. Another feature
that is considered as a cons to this issue is the innappropriate use of
Multimedia options , such as too much animation or over use of slide
transitions.
Further , many teacher do not have enough basic knowledge in
applying PowerPoint in teaching learning.
In conclusion, regardless of the existing cons of using
PowerPoint in teaching , we can’t leave without mentioning that we rely mostly
on the pros and on the efficasity of its usage, so we need it, no matter the risks
are.
If it makes our teaching interesting, let’s go for it .
I like your presentation because you have not only listed the advantages of using interactive PowerPoint, but also its disadvantages.I also think that we have to be careful in order not to include too much information in one slide. It's also true that the slides sometimes are boring and visually poor.I do agree with you when you say that there is an overuse of Multimedia options such as too much animation. We really have to bare these things in mind when making use of interactive PowerPoint.
ReplyDeleteLet's go for it. i agree with your last line ;
